With an additional spraying program, SKOV’s DOL 234 climate computer is able to control pig behaviour

When pigs in pens with partly solid floors start wallowing and making themselves dirty, pig producers can now easily affect the pigs so that they will quickly start using the pen correctly again.

This is possible by means of the new ‛behavioural regulation’ function in SKOV’s DOL 234 climate computer which will be presented at EuroTier in Hanover and which has been approved as one of the official new products at Agromek.

This behavioural regulation function activates the spraying function for a preset period of time. The function has its own time setting for increased spraying, which will usually change the pigs’ behaviour.

The function is simple and safe. The climate computer automatically returns to normal spraying once the additional spraying process has been completed. The pig producer does not have to remember to change the climate computer settings.

The behavioural regulation function thus allows the pig producer to address a problem before serious production consequences occur.

If wallowing is not stopped, the farmer’s workload will increase because more time will have to be spent cleaning pens, which is hard and time-consuming work.

Wallowing and dirt will also reduce the welfare of the animals, and the odour and ammonia emissions will increase if pens are dirtied with slurry.
