Catching function makes ready for slaughtering

Slaughterhouses demand that broilers are sent for slaughter with an empty stomach. If this is not the case, the slaughterhouse can impose production sanctions on the producer. The catching function ensures that the broilers do not have any feed in their stomachs when captured.

SKOV's climate and production computer for the production of broilers is equipped with a new catching function, which prepares feed, lighting and ventilation for the catching procedure. 

- The new feature ensures that the chickens' stomach is empty at the time of slaughter and that the addition of wheat and corn etc., which takes more time for them to digest, is stopped in time before they are captured, says Niels Henrik Lundgaard, Product Manager at SKOV A/S.

Optimum conditions for remaining chickens
The catching function ensures optimal conditions for the remaining chickens when thinning-out. It is important that climate conditions are not impaired for the remaining chickens during thinning-out, just as it is important to minimise the stress level during catching. 

When thinning out it is important that the remaining flock, which constitutes the vast majority of production, is not injured but retain their productivity both during and after the thinning-out procedure. These conditions ensure a solid economy for the producer, continues Niels Henrik Lundgaard.

Easier cleaning at batch end
Emptying of the feed system ensures that there is no feed waste at the end of the batch as well as making cleaning easier at batch end. In this way there are no problems when the feed strings are hoisted up under the ceiling prior to cleaning. 

The climate and production computer maintains all relevant alarms during the thinning-out procedure and reactivates all alarms afterwards. This ensures the animals the best possible safety conditions. 

- Capturing is a procedure that can have major economic consequences in the production of broilers. With the catching function, we have developed a tool that automates a great part of the process and makes the work flow easier for the producer, concludes Niels Henrik Lundgaard.
